I email slides to Mim’s teachers at the beginning of the school year. Her middle school is pretty big and staff changes. I want people to know Mim and understand her. Sometimes I get nervous that this is over the top and I will be seen as a helicopter parent. But every year, I have to fight for Mim’s full inclusion in general education and every year the team acts surprised. The IEP team is surprised that we do not want her in self contained special education classes. The team changes every year but our desired for Mim do not. So every year it feels like we have the same conversations and progress stalls because again we start at ground zero.

My hope is that her team of teachers (approximately 18 different adults) see this and recognize how valued she is. How precious our girl is. How worthy she is of her education.
I really loved reading this. I think I would’ve greatly appreciated getting this kind of information about my students before the year started—you’re an incredible advocate.

Martee – I just love your beautiful persistence with your beautiful daughter! And ALL your kids! And how you just keep going! Your Mim is one of the most important humans – for some odd reason I feel like I know this. And just had to tell you this today! 🤍
